Mindfulness for Stress Reduction
with Dr. Pema Clark
Saturday 26th - Sunday 27th March 2022
Over the past couple of years, stress has become one of the leading causes of depression and anxiety throughout the world. While people have been meditating for thousands of years, mindfulness has grown in popularity due to the success of a variety of secular approaches to stress reduction such as MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy).
Backed by many years of research into its positive effects through its influence on stress pathways in the brain, mindfulness is a practice that can be learned by anyone. Some of the many health benefits include the reduction of stress, anxiety and depression; a decrease of pain in chronic and acute sufferers; and a deeper sense of joy and compassion for self and others.
On this weekend course, you will learn a number of techniques for practicing mindfulness through the training of attention and acceptance in order to improve both mental and physical wellbeing.
Dr. Pema Clark
Pema began her yoga journey in 1997, becoming a Buddhist in the Tibetan tradition. In search of a strong practice to support her running, she found an affinity with Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga in 2005.
It wasn’t until she began her teacher training that she discovered her heart practice in Scaravelli-inspired yoga, taking further training with Diane Long and Pete Blackaby, amongst others. Working with experiential alignment and the ways in which the body responds to gravity, breath and the release found through the exhale, this practice is an on-going exploration of yoga postures that enables an awakening of the instinct of the body to move and settle through the breath.
Interests include experiential and fascial anatomy, meditation and yoga philosophy. Pema has a PhD in Buddhism and Performance Art from the University of East Anglia where she also lectures in drama. She is a 500 hour registered teacher with Yoga Alliance US and is a Fellow in the Higher Education Academy.
