Assist with Heart & Skill
Elina Iso-Rautio | Paula Ahlberg | Friday 26th - Saturday 27th June 2020.
Touch is one of the most powerful forms of human connection.
Through hands-on assists, you have an opportunity to connect with yoga students in a way that opens up deep awareness of each pose and creates space for individual exploration.
Assist with Heart and Skill is a training to learn hands on assisting in a yoga class. It will expand your teaching skills by discovering how to create anatomical alignment for each yogi and how to keep students safe no matter what body type or experience they might have.
This training is focused on how, through assisting, you can add value to the student on the mat using key principles like 'stabilise to mobilise' and 'assisting vs. adjusting’.
Honing your skills in assisting will help you become a better teacher and create meaningful connections with students as you support them deeper into their practice.
You Will Learn:
The Lumi philosophy of assisting
Different types of assists covering postures in a standard vinyasa class
Pressure and direction. These distinctions make the difference between the assist working and not working.
Possibilities and limitations. Exploring how we are all unique in our physiology as well as in our psychology. In assisting we are moving the whole human being.
How your assists land on another human being through feedback and discussion.
Assisting in the flow. Towards the end of the training we will assist whilst the class is moving to experience what it means support and be in the flow.

This course is taught by Elina Iso-Rautio, co-founder of Lumi Power Yoga, a thriving community and studio in London.
I have always loved movement as an access point to self-expression and fulfilment in life. From figure skating in my native Sweden to contemporary dance and sports science studies in London, followed by massage therapies and eventually yoga, my journey has been about exploring movement, mind and life.
Over the years of working with the human body and mind I have come to realise that when we combine technique with healthy boundaries, compassion, curiosity, playfulness and non-attachment to an outcome, we can go to places we never thought were possible.
I teach yoga, coach other teachers, lead yoga teacher trainings and run assisting trainings.
